Getting to know you...

Getting to know you,
Getting to know all about you.
Getting to like you,
Getting to hope you like me.

Well despite not having the Disney perfect first date, the next few months were intoxicating! We spent way more time together than is probably healthy. After only about a few weeks of dating, everyone at the dorm knew. One day, we casually strolled in hoping to not see anyone in the lobby and to our shock every.single.staff.member.was there! Cat calling ensued, I blushed, high fives were given to the Mr. ... oh well secret was out of the bag. At least everyone was ok with it!

Cat call (Sodahead)

Around Christmas time we were both stuck in the dorms instead of home because we got paid double to work holidays and we wanted to stay glued to each other's sides. During a long conversation while driving around looking at Christmas lights he told me that "he thinks that he is falling in love with me". I agreed (giggling that we basically said I love you but not really). A few weeks later we were having another long talk because the Mr. was getting ready to graduate and he wanted to join the military. I was supportive of his goals but devastated at the same time. It was during this conversation that I finally said (first mind you) the all important 3 words- I.Love.You! Of course he said it back and I swooned.

After dating for 9 months, management changed at the dorm. The Mr. had graduate, scored a PERFECT SCORE on the ASVAB and was just loosing some college weight to be able to join the military. Then I got fired from the dorm. No need to get into the long messy story of it, but at the time it was devastating because I not only lost my job, I lost my home and my food. I had 72hrs to move out.

Mr. was practically living in my dorm room at this point but now I packed all of my stuff, moved it into his place and in 72 hours we went from boyfriend and girlfriend to live in boyfriend and girlfriend. Scary, sudden, yet perfect! The lease on his place was almost up so we looked for our own place together. We found it in an ity bity, shouldn't even be allowed to call it a 1 bedroom apartment  We love the area because it was safe and convenient and in the historic downtown area. It was a historic mansion that had been divided into 5, 1 bedroom apartments. It was under 500 square feet and cost us $475 a month- sold!

At the time it seemed like the best apartment in the world, just enough space, in a cute neighborhood, quaint ... ours! Now looking back I know we are meant to last because we didn't kill each other while living in such a tiny place after being together less than a year! The kitchen literally had 1 sq. ft of empty counter space on which to cook and you could just barely open the fridge and the oven and still have a space to stand. The bedroom had linoleum floors that peeled up at the corners and no closet, just a shelf with a bar to hang things on. The bathroom had a sink so old that one day I got out of the shower, rest my foot on the sink to dry and it came crashing to the ground and I was lucky not to be amputated by said crashing sink. Never the less we loved it and to this day I have the best memories of our first place (but will never live in a place so small again!)

How about you? Did you follow an nontraditional path to moving in together? Did you stick to tradition or break all of the rules? Who said I love you first?
